Ron Rolston: 2019 North America Security Guard of the Year–Performance

Our awards and recognition program highlights staff that exemplify our core values of integrity, vigilance, and helpfulness. These employees go above and beyond the call of duty to help our clients and the public.

This award recognizes a security guard who has consistently provided excellent service and outstanding performance.  This year’s award winner is Ron Rolston who joined Securitas Canada in December 1989 and works out of the Cambridge, Ontario branch office.  He started as a security officer and then moved into the role of Fire Prevention Inspector (FPI) in 1992 and has been at the same client site for 30 years due to his exemplary performance in every aspect of his role.

During his tenure at Toyota Canada, Rolston has been involved in various construction and demolition projects where he advised on all fire prevention activities. According to District Manager Chris Scholes, “Ron has an unwavering commitment to training and development and mentoring the new generation of FPIs to success. In addition, he goes above and beyond in his duties to not only increase the efficiency and knowledge of the Securitas Canada team at the site, but also to develop the contribution that Securitas Canada can bring to the client.”

"When I read the nomination, it was awesome. Then when I won, I couldn’t believe I had won the award for all of North America.  “I was just doing my job. As a Securitas Fire Prevention Inspector, working at the Toyota Plant in Cambridge and Woodstock, I have committed myself to safety, endeavoring to make it a better place to work. Sharing my knowledge with our team and the client in regards to fire prevention has been my passion over the years. I am honored that I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of thirty years of fire safety, here at Toyota.” – Ron Rolston.

Rolston is always eager to continually enhance his skill set and in recognition of his contributions to the Fire Prevention field, in 2019 he was selected to represent the client at the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) Conference and Expo in San Antonio, TX.  While there he attended workshops and training to further his knowledge and skills and has used that knowledge to contribute to the development of policies and procedures at the client site to enhance fire and life safety. Recently Rolston used his knowledge, experience and training to develop a training package for “Hot Work” to show how to effectively assess and mitigate risks to create a safer working environment for all site employees and contractors. Some of his policies, procedures and tools are can be used at client site throughout North America to understand life and fire safety.
